A few days ago I browsed an article from Wikipedia regarding Sea of Japan and this statements interest me: "There are no large islands in the sea." Which making me thinking if there is a large island, which is also a nations that located in the middle of the Sea of Japan? What is their culture and language, is their culture and languages is influenced by the Chinese, Korean and Japan? What is their writing system, is it based of the Chinese writings?

Japan forms a generally cohesive state, so assuming this TL goes even a little similar to OTL, the island will be nabbed by China then taken by Japan during the late 1800s. It would probably be a focus of an alternate Russo-Japanese war
